Bollenstreekrit 2011

Mooiste File van NederlandThis Sunday 17th April is the VW aircooled display at the Keukenhof. AKA the Bollenstreekrit (there are also hundreds of other vintage cars on display)
As you might know, the flower park Keukenhof is one of the most beautiful spring gardens in the world which draws in more than 800,000 visitors from around the world in just 2 months.
On Sunday from 10:00 a.m until  2:00 p.m. the cars will be parked at the main entrance of the Keukenhof,  at 14:30 pm the cars will take a scenic drive through the region. This will end on the boulevard in Noordwijk where we will be closing the Best Traffic Jam in the Netherlands (de Mooiste File van Nederland)
Here it is also possible to talk about the nice day while enjoying a snack and a drink at one of the many restaurants or beach bars.
Of course everyone is free in his or her choice to only participate in the ride, visit the park or both.

scanning loyalty cards

Anyone using their phone to store all their loyalty cards?
I know scanners work on old non-touch screens (ala KLM E-Check In) but I have not tried with my existing HTC Desire.
Reason?…
<rant> My wallet is so full of these goddamn cards
I have 2 for petrol, 1 for the DIY store, the Supermarket, Breakdown Service, Hospital, Video shop, Museum Card, Makro, Camping Card, Health insurance, Driving Licience, NL ID)

I’d much rather just have my wallet back thank-you very much instead of lugging round a suitcase in my pocket full of plastic </rant>

Someone tell me this is possible before I make a fool of myself at the checkout, .. also do screen protector make a difference (I’m not using a mirror type before you ask!)

thanks!

Good God! Its a dinosaur

At the Creation Museum in Kentucky, dinosaurs sail on the Ark!
Here exhibits show the Grand Canyon took just days to form during Noah’s flood, dinosaurs coexisted with humans and had a place on Noah’s Ark, and Cain married his sister to people the earth, among other Biblical wonders. Opponents argue that children who see the exhibits will be confused when they learn in school that the universe is 14 billion years old rather than 6,000. more

Westerkerk carillon – lunchtime playlist

I work in Amsterdam, there is a big church nearby called the Westerkerk (it’s near the Anne Frank house), it’s recently been brought back to its former glory with a clean up and I’ve also noticed them playing funky melodies on the carillon. Last week was “I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts” and today I got the full title music for “The good, the bad and ugly”.
Those crazy Dutch!
I’ll keep you updated with any more audio delights!

Ando Momofuku – noodle master

Ando Momofuku, inventor and father of the instant ramen noodle passed away on January 5th at the age of 96.
I suspect he will be going to the great soup bowl in the sky.
In 1948, he founded the precursor to Nissin and in 1958 unveiled Chicken Ramen, the world’s first instant noodle product.
The experience convinced him that “peace will come to the world when the people have enough to eat,” according to Nissin.
I wander if he was a ‘Pastafarian‘?!

/touched by his noodly appendige!

Wuppie shoot em up

A Wuppie is a small fully ball with eyes and feet, created originally by Father Abraham (a crazy Dutch guy who sang tthe Smurf song) . Now its been miniturised into a supermarket give-away for the World Cup, in the traditional colours of Red, White, Blue and of course ORANJE! They are kinda taking over the country with people reporting their cars broken into, all for Wuppies! .. .
Anywho, get your revenge on these evil little marketing tools of the devil (Wuppie stands for “World Unique Promotional Product Identity & Emotion)

KILL THEM NOW!
